Minister Imipas: Corruption Inmate Who Stopped at Coffee Shop Transferred to Nusakambangan
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto stated that corruption inmate named Supriadi, who was caught stopping by a coffee shop in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, has been transferred to a maximum-security prison in Nusakambangan.
“I have already transferred the violator to Nusakambangan,” Agus said when met in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Agus explained that the inmate in question left the detention centre for court proceedings. However, correctional officers should not have the duty of escorting.
Therefore, the officers found accompanying the inmate have also been disciplined. “We are disciplining the staff because they were negligent; it wasn’t actually their task, but since they were there, they must take responsibility,” he said.
As a forward-looking improvement measure, the Minister of Imipas is preparing a circular that clarifies the duties of escorting inmates.
“Now I am requesting that a circular be made stating that if there is any detainee for a hearing who is to be escorted, it must be by the police,” he stated.
Previously, the transfer of inmate Supriadi to Nusakambangan, Central Java, was confirmed by the Head of the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections for Southeast Sulawesi, Sulardi.
“He has arrived at NK (Nusakambangan),” Sulardi said when contacted from Kendari on Thursday (16/4).
Sulardi explained that the sanctions to be imposed on the head of the detention centre will await the results of the examination and decision from the Internal Compliance Operational Unit of the Ministry of Imipas.
In addition to the Kendari Detention Centre chief, the Southeast Sulawesi Ditjenpas has also sanctioned the escorting officers who were on duty at the time, namely by reassigning them from Kendari Detention Centre to the Southeast Sulawesi Ditjenpas Regional Office.
This case came to light after a video recording circulated showing Supriadi, the former Head of the Harbourmaster of Kolaka, relaxing at a cafe after attending a case review hearing (PK) at the Kendari District Court.
Supriadi is a convict in a corruption case involving the abuse of authority in issuing ship sailing permits (SIB) for illegal nickel transport, causing state losses of Rp233 billion.
For his actions, Supriadi was sentenced to five years in prison, a fine of Rp600 million, and an obligation to pay restitution of Rp1.255 billion. He was proven to have received bribes of Rp100 million for each illegally issued tongkang vessel document.
