Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that only Denpasar City and Badung Regency are truly implementing waste sorting in Indonesia. The statement was made during a visit to the Suwung Final Disposal Site (TPA) and the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) at Tahura Ngurah Rai I, accompanied by Bali Governor Wayan Koster and Denpasar Mayor IGN Jaya Negara.

“But we extend our personal great appreciation. Perhaps in our country, the waste sorting is only being done in these two cities. Governor, with your permission. Even though I am forcing myself, because Bali has its specificities, the waste emergency is also one of the anchors or epicentres of our tourism world,” Hanif said when met by the media during the visit on Friday (17/4/2026).

Hanif revealed that the latest report shows Denpasar City and Badung Regency have achieved a figure of nearly 60 percent in waste sorting. “I am somewhat moved and surprised, and very grateful that in less than one month, the government and people of Denpasar City and Badung Regency have managed to sort up to more than 50 percent,” Hanif stated.

He emphasised the importance of implementing Law No. 18 of 2008 on Waste Management, particularly in handling waste produced by each party.

“We must not neglect it or cause a sense of injustice; when one community has sorted, the other community is also urged to sort immediately,” Hanif said.
