Minister Gus Ipul Urges 'Sekolah Rakyat' Principals to Prepare Crucial Orientation Phase
Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, known as Gus Ipul, has called for meticulous preparation of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) for Sekolah Rakyat (People’s Schools), particularly given the transition from pilot to permanent institutions. He urged all school principals to focus on thorough planning, control, monitoring, and evaluation ahead of the new academic year.
During an online meeting with Sekolah Rakyat principals and social service representatives on Friday, 3 July 2026, Gus Ipul stressed that preparations must cover three key aspects: facilities and infrastructure, student readiness, and the preparedness of teachers and education staff. He insisted that buildings must not merely stand empty but should be fully equipped with amenities such as clean water and electricity before MPLS begins. Student enrolment status must also be finalised through a formal decree by the regional head.
The MPLS for the 2026/2027 academic year is scheduled for 14 to 31 July 2026, followed by a matriculation programme from 3 August to 30 September 2026. Gus Ipul described this period as a crucial phase requiring adaptation from all parties to ensure students are physically, mentally, socially, and academically prepared. He emphasised that the orientation is not a mere formality but a vital foundation for equality, allowing students from diverse backgrounds to start from the same point and set aside their differences.
During the meeting, principals and social service representatives actively raised current conditions and potential obstacles ahead of the orientation. Gus Ipul assured them that the Ministry of Social Affairs would address these risks before MPLS commences. He urged all involved to elevate their mental commitment, stating they are managing a major national asset and a noble programme, not just routine tasks. He stressed that the impressive school buildings, funded by public money, must be matched with hard work and professionalism that represent the hopes of the President and the people.
Gus Ipul concluded by stating that 14 July marks the opening of a door to the future for tens of thousands of children, and he called on all parties to work concretely so that the impact is felt by the community. The online meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono and other senior ministry officials.
