Minister for Population and Family Development: House Renovations for Stunting-Risk Families to Continue
Bandung Barat (ANTARA) - The Minister for Population and Family Development (Mendukbangga)/Head of BKKBN, Wihaji, has stated that the programme for repairing and renovating houses for families at risk of stunting (KRS) will continue through the ‘Genting’ (Parents’ Movement to Prevent Stunting) programme.
Wihaji made this announcement during a working visit to West Bandung Regency, where he also distributed assistance from BRI worth Rp50 million for home sanitation improvements. Additionally, nutritional assistance in the form of 10 chickens was provided to the at-risk families.
“We are checking to ensure the needs of stunting-risk families are met. In Kampung Ciroyom, Cisarua, for instance, there is a family with nine children who must travel very far for clean water and face difficulties with sanitation. BRI will be building a house for them. BRI is acting as a foster parent for our ministry through the Genting Programme,” he said on Wednesday.
Wihaji emphasised that saving one person is equivalent to saving an entire generation, a goal pursued through the Genting Programme in synergy with various stakeholders. This is particularly crucial as approximately 8.6 million families at risk of stunting still require interventions ranging from nutritional fulfilment and sanitation improvements to reproductive health education.
“There are several programmes that we will synergise, including the continuation of the foster parent initiative and other programmes that we will communicate to relevant parties. However, we will ensure that after the houses are built, the children can continue their schooling,” Wihaji added.
He also urged the families receiving nutritional assistance and house renovations to utilise the aid optimally.
“Although the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme has not yet reached this area, God willing, we will continue to provide nutritional support and ensure it is well-maintained. We will coordinate with relevant parties regarding the future follow-up for these children,” he concluded.
