Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago has assured that the government continues to make genuine efforts to protect Indonesian nationals (WNI) in Middle Eastern regions currently affected by armed conflict.

“The government provides genuine efforts in providing maximum protection to WNI, whilst ensuring the safety of citizens remains the top priority amid the dynamics of international conflict,” said Djamari in an official press statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He made this statement following the return of the first group of Indonesian citizens from conflict zones in the Middle East on Tuesday (10 March).

A total of 22 Indonesian nationals were successfully repatriated to the country after undertaking air travel via a transit route through Baku, Azerbaijan, before finally arriving in Jakarta.

Djamari assessed that this achievement was possible thanks to government efforts through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working with Indonesian representatives in the region who continue to monitor the security situation in the Middle East and ensure that the evacuation process proceeds safely and in a coordinated manner.

Djamari also appreciated the measures taken by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all relevant agencies in the evacuation process.

He assured that all government agencies will continue to strengthen monitoring in the Middle East region to ensure the safety of Indonesian nationals there.

“The government also urges Indonesian nationals in the Middle East conflict zone to continue coordinating with Indonesian representatives on the ground to ensure safety and the smooth conduct of the repatriation process,” Djamari explained.
