Minister for Higher Education Reveals Discussion Topics with Prabowo at the Palace
President Prabowo Subianto received Minister for Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday. During the meeting, Prabowo provided directives regarding the acceleration of several strategic national industrial sectors. Following the meeting, Brian stated that the government is currently accelerating the development of a number of national industrial fields, ranging from pharmaceuticals to automotive. “Many programmes, starting from pharmaceuticals, the development of the pharmaceutical industry, the development of a national car, a national motorcycle, and others, these downstreaming programmes can be accelerated,” Brian said after the meeting. Brian explained that the government is also paying attention to the readiness of human resources to support national industrial development. He mentioned that Prabowo instructed domestic higher education institutions to produce graduates with quality and competence that match the needs of strategic sectors. “We were asked to ensure that our human resources, our university graduates, can truly meet the needs for industrial development, which is not insignificant,” he said. Furthermore, he stressed that the availability of competent human resources must go hand in hand with the acceleration of industrial development. Brian stated that his ministry will map out and calculate the need for expert personnel to avoid a gap between industry requirements and the competencies of university graduates. “For example, if we need many electrical experts, but the graduates do not match. So we were asked to calculate this, to ensure it can support good industrialisation,” he said.
