Lamongan, East Java (ANTARA) - The Minister for Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti said that revitalising educational units is one of the government’s efforts to support the creation of a quality learning process. ‘Physical development is the body that matters, because learning will run well if supported by external factors such as a decent building,’ he said at the inauguration of the school revitalisation programme at SMP Negeri 1 Lamongan, East Java, on Friday. He explained that school revitalisation is part of the government’s priority programme in support of the national development vision and the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s Asta Cita to produce an outstanding generation. In addition to infrastructure, the government also encourages raising teacher quality through strengthening academic, social, and professional competencies. The government, he continued, also strengthens character education through the ‘Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children’ movement to create a safe and comfortable school environment for students. Abdul Mu’ti added that Lamongan Regency is set to receive an additional school revitalisation programme in 2026. Meanwhile, Lamongan Regent Yuhronur Efendi appreciated the school revitalisation programme, which is seen as capable of strengthening the quality of education in the region. He said the revitalisation includes the construction and rehabilitation of various educational facilities such as classrooms, libraries, and other supporting buildings to support a more active and higher-quality teaching and learning process. In 2025, the Lamongan revitalisation programme covers four levels of educational units: TK/PAUD, 23 primary schools, and 20 junior high schools. The Lamongan Government also promotes improving education quality through several programmes, including the Perintis Scholarship, which has reached almost 8,000 students; the Inclusive and Responsive Education Mentorship Programme (Aksi Biru) for children who dropped out of school; and the Learning Equality Movement (Gertak Desa).
