“We strongly condemn all forms of harassment against women, including those perpetrated through digital chat groups. Such behavior not only undermines women’s dignity but also fosters an unsafe environment, especially within academic settings,” she said in Jakarta on Tuesday (April 14).

Her office is committed to monitoring the handling of this case to ensure victims’ protection, assistance, and justice in accordance with statutory provisions.

“Any form of sexual harassment, including that perpetrated through private conversations in digital spaces, is a violation of human rights and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,” Fauzi pointed out.

The alleged harassment by FHUI students has spread widely across social media, involving discussions in a digital chat group that objectify and sexually demean women, including female students and lecturers.

Minister Fauzi also lauded the university’s swift action in conducting an investigation through the University Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (PPKPT), which has implemented initial steps and internal mechanisms.

“We encourage the University of Indonesia to conduct a thorough investigation and handling through the Task Force, including imposing strict sanctions on any parties proven to be involved,” she remarked.

The minister expressed hope that such incidents will not recur, whether on this campus or at other universities.

In a separate statement, the University of Indonesia ensures the investigation into alleged verbal violence at the Faculty of Law is being conducted comprehensively and in accordance with national regulations.

“The investigation is currently underway comprehensively, involving the UI Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force, the faculty, and relevant units at the university level,” the Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Relations at UI, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, said on Tuesday.
