Minister Erick Discusses Budget and Policy Direction with House Commission X
Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Erick Thohir presented the strategic policy direction, budget performance, and national sports achievement targets in a working meeting with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (31/8/2026).
In his presentation, Minister Erick stated that his ministry is aligning its work programme with the Asta Cita and national priorities through three main pillars: Youth Development, Sports Culture Promotion, and Sports Achievement Enhancement.
“We want to improve the quality of youth, promote inclusive sports culture, strengthen the sports industry in line with the National Sports Grand Design, and develop tiered and sustainable sports coaching,” said Minister Erick.
In the achievement sector, Minister Erick revealed the target for the Indonesian team to bring home at least four gold medals at the 2026 Asian Games. This target is supported by the national training programme and the readiness of leading sports disciplines.
“The Ministry of Youth and Sports is also following up on the President’s directives regarding the national sports academy, athlete scholarships, and the Cibubur sports science centre. There is also strengthening of the long-term sustainable development system for 20 leading Olympic sports and one world-stage sport, as well as the implementation of national talent management,” said Minister Erick.
Furthermore, Minister Erick outlined youth programmes leading up to the centenary of Youth Pledge Day in 2028. The ministry is intensifying a series of flagship youth programmes, such as the Wirasena Youth Camp, Youth Summit, Wirasena Youth Career Hub, and the International Youth Exchange Programme (PPAN).
Regarding financial matters, Minister Erick reported on the Joint Letter on Budget Ceiling (SBPA) concerning the 2027 expenditure budget and special allocation funds. The ministry’s budget ceiling is set at Rp 4.019 trillion.
“The most important thing is how we maintain trust in the use of funds, so that the public can feel the benefits of the programmes. We should be transparent and accountable,” explained Minister Erick.
Deputy Chair of Commission X of the DPR, Kurniasih Mufidayati, who led the working meeting, stated that the commission agreed with the budget. The results of this meeting will subsequently be discussed through the budget deliberation mechanism.
“Commission X emphasises that the Ministry of Youth and Sports should use the views and input from members of Commission X, as conveyed in the brief report, as a reference in formulating policies, programmes, and activities for the 2027 fiscal year,” she said.
