Minister Ensures Pioneer Transport Services Will Continue Until End of 2026
The Ministry of Transportation has ensured that pioneer transport services will continue to operate until the end of the 2026 fiscal year to maintain connectivity between regions and the distribution of staple goods. The certainty was given after the service, which had experienced delays, has now returned to normal operations.
Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi conveyed this after attending a working meeting discussing subsidies for pioneer ships serving the outermost islands at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Monday (20/7/2026).
“We will continue to implement pioneer services until the fiscal year ends. So, with the current budget conditions, we are finding ways to manage, and the most important thing is that the service does not stop,” Dudy said.
According to Dudy, the Ministry of Transportation has taken a number of steps to maintain service continuity, including daily monitoring of ship operations, sailing schedules, and cargo loads. The Ministry is also strengthening coordination with operators, port authorities, local governments, and related agencies.
In addition, the Ministry of Transportation has proposed a supplementary budget to anticipate potential service disruptions in the future.
In the long term, Dudy said the government will strengthen funding support, improve fleet quality and port infrastructure, integrate the national logistics system, and enhance intermodal connectivity. Periodic evaluations of route networks will also be conducted to ensure they remain aligned with community needs and regional economic developments.
According to Dudy, the pioneer transport subsidy is a government instrument to guarantee basic services, strengthen national connectivity, and support equitable development.
“In the 2026 fiscal year, 107 pioneer ship routes, 41 sea toll routes, 6 special livestock ship routes, and 18 rede transport routes are being operated to ensure transportation access and logistics distribution,” Dudy said.
