Minister ensures accelerated school revitalisation by 2026

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti has confirmed that the school revitalisation programme for 2026 is being accelerated, with work already 70 per cent complete for the allocation of 11,744 schools. Several schools are expected to be ready for use in the upcoming academic year.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, Mendikdasmen Abdul Mu’ti stated he had reported the achievement of school facility improvements in 2025, which reached 16,167 educational units as targeted. This year, revitalisation is targeted at a total of 71,744 schools across Indonesia, comprising 11,744 educational units funded with a budget of Rp14 trillion and a planned additional 60,000 units.

“The revitalisation for 2026 is now underway, already at 70 per cent of that 11,744 allocation. Work has begun, and some projects are even expected to be completed by July and August, ready to be inaugurated for the start of the 2026-2027 school year,” the Minister stated.

“We estimate significant labour absorption at the regional level for those working on this revitalisation,” Abdul Mu’ti added. He projected that for the revitalisation of 71,744 educational units this year, around 1.1 million people could be employed in the activity over a period of three to eight months.

The Minister noted that communities have expressed appreciation for the revitalisation during his visits to various regions, especially frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) areas.

“Although, in accordance with the law, the responsibility for construction lies with local governments, due to the President’s commitment to improving the quality of education, we are revitalising these schools, both state and private, and we are implementing this throughout Indonesia,” Abdul Mu’ti concluded.
