Minister: Dukuh Atas 'Donut Bridge' to Integrate Six Transport Modes

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the construction of the transit-oriented development (TOD) area at Sudirman Station in Jakarta, often referred to as the ‘Dukuh Atas Donut Bridge’, will integrate six transport modes, thereby strengthening connectivity and facilitating public mobility in Jakarta. “Later, at that TOD, we will see Jakarta’s transport connectivity across six modes,” the Minister said during a media discussion in Jakarta on Friday. He mentioned that the six rail transport services to be closely interconnected in the area include the KRL Commuter Line, Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek, LRT Jakarta, and the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Rail Link. Consequently, the Sudirman Station TOD will become an integration node for six transport modes to improve passenger transfer ease and public accessibility in Jakarta. According to the Minister, the construction of the Donut Bridge is targeted for completion by 2028 and will be entirely executed by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda). “The donut is expected to be completed by 2028. And it will be fully carried out by the regional government through MRT,” the Minister explained. He elaborated that the TOD area is designed to be a connectivity hub linking various mass transit services, making daily public journeys faster, more comfortable, and efficient. He noted that the concept is temporarily known as the Donut Bridge due to its design shape and function as an intermodal connector, although the official name for the area is still being prepared. “So there are six, all of them are trains, but it is hoped that Jakarta will be connected even more widely. We haven’t given it a name yet; for now, we call it the ‘Donut Bridge’,” he clarified. The TOD is expected to become a new connectivity centre linking the entire railway and public transport network in Jakarta, making public journeys more integrated with various destinations. Through this integration, public transport users will no longer face complicated intermodal transfers because all services are designed to be interconnected within the integrated TOD area. The government hopes the development of this area will further encourage the public to switch to public transport, as intermodal access becomes easier, travel times become shorter, and passenger services improve. “The Donut TOD or Donut hub will connect all areas, all our railways in the Jakarta region, so that the public can access all areas of DKI Jakarta with ease,” Dudy said.
