Minister Dudy Guarantees Fulfilment of All Rights for KM Mutiara Sentosa II Fire Victims

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has confirmed that the government will oversee the fulfilment of all rights for the victims and families affected by the fire on the KM Mutiara Sentosa II. In addition to continuing to support the search and evacuation process, the Ministry of Transportation is ensuring that all passengers and their families receive the necessary services and assistance. As of 3 August 2026 at 09.00 WIB, the temporary evacuation data shows that 234 victims have been evacuated, with 229 survivors and 5 fatalities. ‘On behalf of the government and the Ministry of Transportation, I once again express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased victims. We pray that all victims who are still undergoing treatment recover soon,’ said Minister Dudy in a statement on Monday. He stressed that the safety and protection of all passengers is the government’s top priority. Therefore, the Ministry of Transportation continues to coordinate with Basarnas, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Indonesian National Police, the Sumenep Regency Government, the ship operator, hospitals, PT Jasa Raharja, Pelindo, and all relevant agencies to ensure the handling of victims is swift, integrated, and comprehensive. Minister Dudy stated that the government is also ensuring that every passenger receives proper handling, from the evacuation process and health services to family assistance and the fulfilment of rights in accordance with applicable regulations. The Ministry of Transportation is supervising the operator and related parties to ensure they fulfil all their obligations to passengers and victims, as stipulated by laws and regulations. These rights include providing accurate information to families, medical services and referrals for victims in need, facilitating the identification process, handling the families of victims, and settling compensation and insurance protection claims according to the provisions. ‘We have instructed the ranks of the Ministry of Transportation to continue overseeing the process of fulfilling the victims’ rights and ensuring that inter-agency coordination runs optimally. No victim or family should experience difficulties in obtaining services or their rights,’ said the Minister. The Ministry of Transportation stated that the process of recording victim identities and matching manifests is being carried out carefully to avoid errors in conveying information to families. All developments will be conveyed openly based on data verified together with the relevant agencies.
