Minister Dody Reveals 107 National Road Sections Affected by Sumatra Disaster Are Now Functional Again
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has revealed that all 107 national road sections affected by the Sumatra disaster have been restored to full functionality, allowing them to be used by the public once again. He stated that the handling of connectivity infrastructure, such as roads and bridges, was carried out in accordance with the division of authority between the central and regional governments.
“For road and bridge infrastructure under the central government’s authority, all emergency restoration work has been completed. Based on data from the Ministry of Public Works’ Disaster Response System as of 21 July 2026, all 107 affected national road sections have been made functional again,” Dody said in Jakarta, quoted on Saturday, 25 July 2026. He added that all 43 affected national bridges have also been restored to functionality, bringing the central government’s infrastructure recovery progress to 100 percent.
Regarding infrastructure under regional government authority, Dody noted that recovery efforts are still ongoing. According to the Ministry’s data, 2,421 regional road sections were affected, and 2,291 of these have been restored to functionality. Meanwhile, 821 out of 1,184 affected regional bridges have been made functional again.
Dody emphasised that the restoration of function does not mean all work has concluded. The Ministry of Public Works will continue with follow-up measures to enhance the reliability and resilience of the infrastructure through permanent rehabilitation and reconstruction. These efforts include strengthening road and bridge structures, improving drainage systems, slope stabilisation, constructing protective structures, and implementing other mitigation measures to ensure the infrastructure is more robust in facing potential future disasters.
“The government, through the Ministry of Public Works, continues to accelerate the implementation of post-disaster infrastructure rehabilitation and reconstruction in the provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra,” Dody stated. He explained that the work is being carried out based on the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Master Plan for Sumatra 2026-2028, adhering to the principle of ‘build back better’—rebuilding infrastructure that is safer, stronger, and more resilient to disasters. Currently, some activities have entered the implementation phase of rehabilitation and reconstruction, while other works are still in the preparation stage, including the completion of technical documents, procurement, and contractual processes.
