Minister Confirms Insurance Coverage for KMP Putri Yasmin Fire Victims

Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi has confirmed that victims of the KMP Putri Yasmin ferry fire, which occurred in the waters off Sekotong, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), will receive insurance coverage. He stated that passengers who died would receive life insurance compensation from PT Jasa Raharja. Meanwhile, injured passengers will have their medical treatment costs guaranteed. Currently, 12 victims are being treated at the NTB Regional General Hospital.

The incident took place in the early hours of Wednesday. The Mataram Search and Rescue (SAR) Office received a report and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the location. Video footage received by the media showed thick smoke billowing from the vessel, with passengers in a state of panic. The cause of the fire and the exact number of passengers and crew on board are still being investigated and recorded by the authorities.
