Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni has revealed that President Prabowo Subianto is providing full support for ecosystem restoration efforts in Indonesia. He described this backing as crucial capital for the government to accelerate the recovery of degraded forest areas.

The statement was made during the National Nature Conservation Day commemoration in the Angke Nature Tourism Park, Jakarta, held with the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation of the Ministry of Forestry. Raja Juli stated that the President’s commitment to environmental restoration was openly affirmed on the international stage during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly the previous year.

In that global forum, the President expressed Indonesia’s commitment to restoring 12 million hectares of degraded land, of which 6.7 million hectares are located in forest areas and 1.27 million hectares are conservation areas. Beyond land restoration, concrete support from President Prabowo is also being demonstrated through the fulfilment and increase of Forest Police personnel to strengthen supervision in conservation areas, with a target of reaching 21,000 personnel or at least adding 3,000 new officers in the near future.

Raja Juli acknowledged that ecosystem restoration is not an easy task, especially given the state’s budgetary limitations to carry out all targets independently on a large scale. However, he stressed that this should not be a reason to stop or be pessimistic, adding that the government must open itself to collaboration with any well-intentioned parties.
