Minister Calls for Inter-University Collaboration to Boost Research Commercialisation

We need to produce works that can serve as solutions for the nation.

he Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, has called upon the Indonesian Rector Forum (FRI) to realise inter-campus collaboration to achieve the downstreaming of research and innovation.

“If we encounter many problems, that is precisely where the role of universities lies. We need to make many breakthroughs. We need to produce works that can serve as solutions for the nation,” said Minister Brian Yuliarto in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Minister Brian stated that the government continues to encourage the strengthening of higher education governance while simultaneously accelerating the downstreaming of research results.

The Minister emphasised that universities need to strengthen collaboration across institutions, the government, and the business world, so that the innovations produced do not merely end as scientific publications, but develop into technologies and products that provide added value to both society and the national economy.

He further stressed that strengthening internationalisation, developing collaborative research, and utilising research results that can be downstreamed must always be realised to increase the global competitiveness of universities.

[The Minister] emphasised that his office is focusing various collaborative programmes on the fields of food, health, energy, industrial downstreaming, digitalisation, advanced materials, maritime, and defence through three commissions and several thematic working groups.

“It is hoped that the FRI can serve as a policy supporting system, a dialogue platform, a collaborative forum for research and innovation, and a venue for increasing academic standards in higher education,” said Garuda Wiko.
