Minister Bahlil Prays Before Coffin of Former Vice President Try Sutrisno

JAKARTA — Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia prayed directly in front of the coffin of Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno on Monday (2 March 2026).

This moment occurred as Try Sutrisno’s coffin was being moved from the hall to the prayer area at the Grand Mosque of Sunda Kelapa in Central Jakarta.

According to observations by Kompas.com, Bahlil was seen raising both hands and closing his eyes whilst praying in front of the coffin. After completing his prayer, Bahlil touched Try Sutrisno’s coffin, which was draped with the Indonesian red and white flag.

Those present included Indonesia’s thirteenth Vice President Ma’ruf Amin; Ilham Habibie, son of the seventh Vice President BJ Habibie; and former Youth and Sports Minister Adhyaksa Dault.

Try Sutrisno’s body arrived at the Grand Mosque of Sunda Kelapa at 11:20 WIB to be prayed over. Following the prayer service, a state funeral ceremony would proceed to Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, where Try Sutrisno would be buried.

Try’s family stated that he had no specific pre-existing medical conditions, but his health declined owing to his advanced age of 90 years. “My father’s decline was simply due to his age; everything deteriorates at that age. There was no particular illness. It was simply age-related decline in his respiratory capacity and suchlike,” said Taufik Dwi Cahyono, Try’s son, at RSPAD Gatot Soebroto on Monday, citing Kompas TV.

“He was hospitalised from 16 February. He suddenly lost his appetite, was brought here, had his condition fluctuate, was given medication and food,” Taufik added.

Taufik stated that the medical team at RSPAD and the Presidential office had provided Try with the best possible treatment until he passed away on Monday morning.
