Minister Bahlil partners with Pindad to develop 3 kg CNG cylinders

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has said he will partner with PT Pindad, a state-owned enterprise operating in the military and commercial industries, to develop 3 kilogram (kg) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinders.

“We will carry this out with Pindad later,” Bahlil said after attending the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition 2026 held in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Bahlil said the 3 kg CNG cylinders are still undergoing trials in China.

According to Bahlil, the partnership with Pindad to develop the 3 kg CNG cylinders will be carried out once the trials in China are declared complete.

Separately, Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Laode Sulaeman, said samples of the 3 kg CNG cylinders will complete testing in China by the end of July, after which they will be sent to the Oil and Gas Testing Centre (Lemigas) for trials in Indonesia.

After the trial process in Indonesia, Laode said the government will begin introducing the 3 kg CNG cylinders to the public.

“The trials will first take place in large cities, perhaps one of them will be in West Java first,” said Laode.
