Minister Bahlil partners with Pindad to develop 3 kg CNG cylinders

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has announced plans to collaborate with PT Pindad, the state-owned enterprise specialising in military and commercial industries, to develop 3-kilogramme Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinders. Speaking after the opening of the Global Hydrogen Ecosystem Summit & Exhibition 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, Bahlil stated that the 3 kg CNG cylinders are currently undergoing trials in China. He confirmed that the partnership with Pindad will commence once the testing phase in China is completed. Separately, Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Laode Sulaeman, said that the sample of the 3 kg CNG cylinder is expected to complete testing in China by the end of July. The sample will then be sent to the Oil and Gas Testing Centre (Lemigas) for further trials in Indonesia. Following the domestic testing phase, Laode stated that the government will begin introducing the 3 kg CNG cylinders to the public, with initial trials planned for major cities, possibly starting in West Java.
