Minister Bahlil Inaugurates Tuban Mini LNG Plant to Curb Imports

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government is continuing to push for the optimisation of domestic natural gas utilisation as part of efforts to strengthen national energy security. This was marked by the inauguration of a Mini LNG Plant owned by PT Sumber Aneka Gas in Tuban, East Java, by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia. In his remarks, Bahlil stressed that the success of an investment is not only measured by the project’s value, but also by the tangible benefits it generates for domestic energy needs. “I do not look at the size of the investment or production, but I see it as a real work by a company carried out to meet domestic needs, especially since this produces LNG, LPG, condensate, and also CNG. This is a form of energy mix in reducing imports,” Bahlil said in an official statement. He noted that amidst ongoing global geopolitical uncertainty, almost all countries are now trying to optimise all their energy potential, even from small-scale projects. “This is a form of energy mix in reducing our energy imports. He affirmed that the development of natural gas infrastructure is a strategic government move to strengthen energy security while increasing the utilisation of domestic energy resources. The PT Sumber Aneka Gas Mini LNG Plant was built with an investment value of approximately Rp1.1 trillion. The facility has a production capacity of up to 55,300 tonnes of LNG per year and has absorbed more than 330 workers. The facility’s presence is expected to expand the utilisation of natural gas domestically, strengthen energy supply, and enhance the competitiveness of national industry through the provision of more reliable energy. The government is also continuing to encourage collaboration with various parties to accelerate energy infrastructure development, so that it can provide benefits to the community and support national economic growth.
