Minister Bahlil Identifies Regions at Risk of Landslides
Jakarta — Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has outlined the potential for landslide activity across several regions of Indonesia.
He explained that according to reports received, West Java has the highest potential for landslide activity among Indonesian regions.
“There is another report concerning landslides and land movement. I only just learnt that ESDM oversees landslide management as well. This occurrence is greatest in West Java,” Bahlil stated during a Full Cabinet Session at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (13 March 2026).
Nevertheless, Bahlil assessed that the potential for landslides in the West Java region can still be adequately mitigated. The Geological Agency team has been deployed in the field to provide early warning and coordinate with regional governments.
“It can still be mitigated because our team there is complete to provide notification and coordinate with regional governments in offering explanations. I believe that addresses the matter of earthquakes and tsunamis, and there is nothing particularly concerning. So, God willing, we are clear,” Bahlil said.
On another matter, he also reported on the status of volcanic activity across Indonesia. His team continues to monitor developments in volcanic activity to ensure the situation remains safe, particularly as the nation approaches the Eid al-Fitr 2026 holiday period.
Based on monitoring data, he stated that currently no volcano in Indonesia is at Level 4 status (Alert). However, two volcanoes are at Level 3 status (Warning).
“For volcanoes, so that during the holiday period God willing remains safe. There are no Level 4 volcanoes. There are only Level 3 ones,” Bahlil said.
Bahlil then detailed that the two volcanoes at warning status are Mount Merapi on the Central Java–Yogyakarta border and Mount Semeru in East Java.
