Jakarta — The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Bahlil Lahadalia, has assured that the nation’s fuel stockpiles remain secure amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. Fuel prices will not increase until the upcoming Eid celebration.

He explained that Indonesia’s fuel pricing system comprises two schemes: subsidised and non-subsidised products. For subsidised fuel types, such as Pertalite and Biosolar, price increases are ruled out even as global crude oil prices surge. World crude oil prices have currently breached $100 per barrel, significantly above the 2026 state budget assumption of $70 per barrel for Indonesian crude (ICP).

According to Bahlil, maintaining stable subsidised fuel prices is a government effort to protect public purchasing power. “The government has deep concern for public welfare. We do not wish to place all burdens on the people,” he stated.

Beyond fuel, supplies of liquefied petroleum gas and coal for power generation are also guaranteed secure. Bahlil said their availability remains above the national minimum threshold. “The availability of fuel, LPG, and electricity are all under control, safe, and in line with national minimum stock standards,” he said.

He added that although the Middle East conflict shows no signs of abating, there have been positive developments regarding global energy transit, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz. Ships can now increasingly transit through the strait. “We’ve received some relief regarding the Strait of Hormuz, as there are now opening and closing policies. This means for ships and non-Israeli and non-American countries, communication can now occur. This is actually a positive development,” Bahlil said.
