Minister Bahlil encourages IPPs to develop 100 GWp solar power projects

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia is encouraging independent power producers (IPPs), or private companies, to develop 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) solar power plant projects.

“We report that the first thing is we are encouraging IPPs. If the price is competitive, we will give it to IPPs,” Bahlil said at the Launching and Groundbreaking of the 100 GWp Solar Power Programme held in Gilimanuk, Bali, on Tuesday.

Bahlil said that if the electricity price generated by the solar plants is not competitive and no IPPs are interested in developing the projects, the government will take over and provide financing through Danantara.

Financing through Danantara, he continued, will be carried out in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives for efficiency, effectiveness and affordability.

The 14 projects are divided into several categories, including six projects ready for tender, comprising the Jatiluhur Floating Solar Plant with a capacity of 1,688 MWp, located at Jatiluhur Reservoir in Purwakarta, West Java.

Next, the Cirata Floating Solar Plant with a capacity of 1,250 MWp (Cirata Reservoir, Purwakarta, West Java); the Jatigede Floating Solar Plant with a capacity of 636 MWp (Jatigede Reservoir, Sumedang, West Java); the Madura Cluster Solar Plant with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with a capacity of 605 MWp (Sumenep, East Java) to support the Fat Burning Madura programme, or the elimination of fuel oil in Madura.

Furthermore, the Bali Solar Plant with a capacity of 300 MWp (Gilimanuk, Jembrana, Bali) to eliminate fuel oil use in Bali; and the Purwakarta Land Bank Solar Plant with a capacity of 69 MWp (Purwakarta, West Java).
