Minister Bahlil assures 3kg LPG price will not rise and stock is secure

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia has assured that the price of 3kg LPG, or subsidised LPG, will not increase, while confirming that stocks of subsidised LPG remain above the national minimum standard. “Specifically for subsidised LPG, our stocks are above the national minimum standard and the price will not rise; it remains flat,” Bahlil stated after a press conference on the discovery of a giant gas field in East Kalimantan, held at the Ministry of ESDM office in Jakarta on Monday. Like Pertalite and Biosolar, Bahlil noted that the government is also holding the price of 3kg LPG steady. Since the government implemented the 3kg LPG programme in 2007, he continued, the price of 3kg LPG has never been raised to date. “What happens is that prices are manipulated at the distributor and depot levels. That is what I intend to regulate so that the subsidy truly reaches those who are entitled to it,” Bahlil said. In February 2025, Bahlil had attempted to streamline the distribution of 3kg LPG to ensure it reaches the right targets by eliminating retailers. However, this step led to long queues for purchasing 3kg LPG. As an alternative, Bahlil invited retailers to register as sub-depots, thereby preventing price surges at the retail level and ensuring that buyers are eligible recipients. Meanwhile, for non-subsidised LPG such as 5.5kg and 12kg LPG, Bahlil explained that price increases for these commodities are influenced by international LPG prices. If global prices decline, Bahlil did not rule out the possibility that non-subsidised LPG prices would also decrease. “There is a formula for it. Previously, it was based on Saudi Aramco prices. So, if global prices fall, they will definitely fall too. If global prices rise, they rise,” Bahlil said. As of 18 April 2026, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga raised the price of non-subsidised 12kg Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from Rp192,000 per cylinder to Rp228,000 per cylinder, an increase of 18.75%. Meanwhile, the price of 5.5kg non-subsidised LPG also rose by 18.89%, from Rp90,000 per cylinder to Rp107,000 per cylinder in the regions of Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, and West Nusa Tenggara. This LPG price increase is the first since 2023.
