Minister Arifah Stresses Victim Recovery as Priority in Violence Cases

Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi has stressed that the recovery of a woman identified as YTR (29), a victim of false imprisonment and severe abuse in Bandung, West Java, is a priority. “Victim recovery must be the primary focus in every handling of violence cases,” Minister Arifah Fauzi said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA) has coordinated with the West Java Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) and various parties to ensure the victim receives a sense of security, psychological support, health services, and the necessary assistance to recover and resume her life properly. “Ensuring the victim receives protection, assistance, and access to the required recovery services,” Arifah Fauzi stated.

Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi also called on all parties, including regional governments, service institutions, community organisations, and local communities, to strengthen efforts to prevent and handle violence against women.

Previously, the West Java Regional Police (Polda Jabar) arrested suspect TH (30) at a house belonging to a relative in Griya Pesona Housing Complex, Ciparay, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Tuesday afternoon (23/6). The case came to light after the victim’s family received a message via WhatsApp from an unknown person informing them that the victim was in the Emergency Department of Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. As a result of the violence allegedly committed by the suspect, the victim sustained multiple severe injuries, including impaired vision leading to blindness in both eyes, a torn lip, difficulty speaking, inability to walk normally, and the loss of several valuable belongings.
