Jakarta — Indonesia’s Minister for Women Empowerment and Child Protection Arifah Fauzi has stressed the importance of ensuring digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are utilised safely and responsibly for children.

“Children today face various challenges in the digital world, ranging from exposure to negative content to the risk of cyber violence. Therefore, with proper oversight and guidance, digital technology and AI can become effective learning tools whilst supporting children’s optimal growth and development,” she said in Jakarta on Friday.

The government is encouraging all parties to work together to ensure Indonesian children can utilise technology positively for a better future.

The ministry supports the establishment of a Joint Ministerial Decision (SKB) from Seven Ministers on Guidelines for the Utilisation and Learning of Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Formal, Non-formal, and Informal Education.

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno emphasised that the Seven Ministers’ SKB represents a collective government effort to ensure digital technology and AI are utilised wisely and support educational quality.

“This seven-minister decree addresses guidelines for digital technology and AI use across formal, non-formal, and informal education. Digital technology and AI are developments that cannot be avoided. Therefore, the government does not intend to restrict technological progress, but rather to regulate it so it can be utilised optimally whilst minimising various risks that may emerge, particularly for children and adolescents,” he said.
