Minister Ara Reports to Prabowo on House Renovation Programme, Targeting 400,000 Units
President Prabowo Subianto met with the Minister of Housing and Residential Areas, Maruarar Sirait, also known as Ara, at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday afternoon, 9 June 2026. Also in attendance alongside Minister Maruarar was the President Director of Standard Chartered Indonesia, Rino Santodiono Donosepoetro.
In a written statement, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya explained that during the meeting, President Prabowo received reports regarding the progress of several priority programmes in the housing sector. These programmes aim to improve the quality of community housing and expand access to decent and affordable homes.
One of the key updates concerned the implementation of the House Renovation Programme (Program Bedah Rumah). This programme targets the renovation of 400,000 uninhabitable housing units into safe and comfortable homes for communities across various regions.
“The progress of the House Renovation Programme, which targets the improvement of 400,000 uninhabitable housing units into safe and comfortable homes for the community in various regions,” stated Cabinet Secretary Teddy on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
Furthermore, Cabinet Secretary Teddy noted that Minister Maruarar also reported on the progress of subsidized apartment construction in the Meikarta area, Bekasi Regency. This project is part of the acceleration of the 3 Million Houses Programme, which has currently entered the land clearing and groundbreaking stages.
Additionally, Teddy explained that Minister Maruarar reported plans to expand the House Renovation Programme in 2027 to broaden the programme’s reach to more citizens in need. President Prabowo has reportedly given his approval for this expansion.
Teddy stated that the government continues to push for the implementation of priority programmes in the housing sector. This includes the construction of subsidised houses for low-income communities, the development of low-cost apartments, slum upgrading, and the development of housing financing schemes that are increasingly accessible to the public.
“These efforts are part of the government’s commitment to providing decent, affordable, and high-quality housing for all Indonesian people,” concluded Teddy.
This step is part of President Prabowo’s broader vision to ensure that development not only drives economic growth but also delivers direct welfare to the people through access to decent, affordable, and quality housing.
