Minister Ara Ready to Accelerate Renovation of 10,000 Houses for Parents of People's School Students
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait (Ara), has emphasised that the government is ready to accelerate the renovation of 10,000 units of homes belonging to parents of People’s School students as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s strategic programme.
“We will work quickly. The data is already underway, it has been verified quickly. It will be done soon,” said Ara when met after a meeting with Bank BSN President Director Alex Sofjan Noor regarding subsidised housing financing in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She stated that the number of home renovations for People’s School students has increased significantly compared to the previous year, which only covered around 1,000 units in various regions of Indonesia.
Nevertheless, according to her, the implementation of the home renovations will proceed promptly following the schedule and locations determined by the Ministry of Social Affairs to ensure the programme runs quickly and reaches the intended beneficiaries accurately.
“Last year 1,000 (units), this year 10,000 (units), we will proceed soon following the schedule from Mr Social Minister (Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf) to several locations,” said Minister Ara.
She explained that the data collection and verification process for prospective renovation aid recipients is currently ongoing, allowing the government to promptly commence the programme in line with field data readiness.
Ara affirmed that the Ministry of PKP is fully prepared to support the programme and ensure the acceleration of home renovations is carried out immediately upon receipt of data from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The Ministry of Social Affairs is collaborating with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) to renovate 10,000 units of uninhabitable homes owned by parents of People’s School students across Indonesia.
Previously, Social Minister Saifullah stated that this renovation programme is part of a miniature poverty alleviation effort as outlined in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 8 of 2025.
“People’s Schools serve as empowerment centres where children attend school, while their parents are empowered and supported through strategic programmes, one of which is home renovations to make them more habitable, backed by the Ministry of PKP,” he said.
Of the 10,000 proposed homes, 5,000 units have been declared eligible or clear and clean, particularly regarding self-owned land status. The remainder are currently in the process of field verification and validation by the Ministry of Social Affairs’ accompanying team together with Ministry of PKP officials.
Regarding parents’ homes with occupancy status that are still squatting, borrowing, or renting, the Ministry of Social Affairs is committed to finding alternative solutions through cooperation with various parties.
