Minister Appreciates OSC Scholarship for Expanding Higher Education Access
Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto has expressed appreciation for the staging of the Online Scholarship Competition (OSC) Awards 2026, describing it as a form of societal collaboration to widen access to higher education for Indonesia’s younger generation.
In a statement issued in Jakarta on Friday, the Minister said the strong public enthusiasm for scholarship programmes demonstrates the great desire of Indonesia’s young generation to pursue higher education.
Beyond the government’s continued budget allocation for student assistance, collaboration with other parties remains necessary and appreciated in order to provide broader access to information for prospective students from all walks of life.
“Each year, the government funds more than 1.2 million students with a budget exceeding Rp15 trillion. The high level of public enthusiasm for participation in scholarships such as OSC shows the desire to pursue higher education. We also encourage students to be proactive in seeking out various sources of scholarships,” he said.
He assessed that many prospective students actually possess great potential and a strong desire to continue their studies, but have yet to obtain adequate information about the various education assistance schemes available.
“Often our sons and daughters in the regions have a strong desire to continue their education, but access to information about scholarships remains limited. That is why we greatly appreciate OSC’s efforts to reach areas outside the major cities,” Brian said.
The Minister also said his ministry is currently compiling information on scholarship programmes from various parties so that they can be accessed more widely by the public.
Brian expressed hope that OSC scholarship recipients will make the most of the opportunity and continue to excel throughout their higher education.
“Students who receive these scholarships carry a hope and a mandate. Do not give up easily, achieve well, and one day it is not impossible that today’s scholarship recipients will become scholarship providers for the next generation,” said Brian Yuliarto.
It is understood that the OSC 2026 Scholarship provides 145 scholarship places from ten partner universities. The programme has generated considerable public enthusiasm, with more than 7,000 participants from various regions of Indonesia taking part in the selection process.
