Minister Amran's Strategy to Return Egg Prices to Reference Levels

Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman has affirmed the government’s commitment to stabilising the price of purebred chicken eggs to bring them back in line with the Sales Reference Price (HAP). This move responds to price dynamics at the farm level that require strategic intervention to maintain the sustainability of the national poultry ecosystem. In a statement at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Jakarta on Wednesday (17/6), Minister Amran outlined three main policies currently being implemented. First, intensive coordination with the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Second, optimising the absorption of egg stocks in the market. Third, providing feed subsidies through the Corn Supply and Price Stabilisation Programme (SPHP) from Bulog. “There are several steps we took yesterday. The first is through BGN, I called the head of BGN directly. The second is absorption. The third is the feed, there is SPHP which subsidises livestock feed from corn, from Bulog,” said Amran. One crucial point in this strategy is the integration of eggs into the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. The Minister stated he has communicated with the Head of BGN, Nanik S. Deyang, to increase the allocation of egg consumption in the programme’s menu after the school holiday period ends. According to Amran, the response from BGN was very positive. The plan is to increase egg consumption from one egg to three eggs per week. This step is expected to significantly boost market demand so that prices at the farm level can be lifted towards the ideal level. In addition to market intervention, the government is also asking off-takers or large companies to purchase eggs from farmers according to the price standards set by the government. The Minister stressed that this process will be under the strict supervision of the Food Task Force to ensure there are no practices that harm independent farmers. “We urge all large companies that are off-takers to buy according to government standards under the supervision of the Food Task Force,” he concluded. Based on data as of 15 June 2026, the national average price of purebred chicken eggs at the farm level was recorded at Rp24,019/kg, which forms the basis of the urgency for this stabilisation measure.
