Minister Amran Focuses on Realising 'Harvest Festival' in Papua
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman is focusing on realising a ‘harvest festival’ in Papua through accelerated agricultural development, the largest budget support in history, and strengthening regional food production. “A harvest festival from Sabang to Merauke, and we are focusing on the harvest festival in Papua, the land of Papua,” the Minister said in a confirmed statement in Jakarta on Friday. He made the statement when asked about the polemic surrounding agricultural development in Papua, particularly following the release of the film ‘Pesta Babi’ (Pig Party). Minister Amran emphasised that the government’s focus is on delivering prosperity to the community through increased food production and farmers’ income. He added that the results of agricultural development are already being felt by the community. The price of rice, which previously could reach Rp25,000 to Rp30,000 per kilogram in several areas of Papua, has now fallen and is approaching the national price. “We want our brothers and sisters in Papua to enjoy food prices equal to those in Java, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. That is why our focus is on realising a harvest festival throughout the land of Papua,” he explained. Minister Amran previously held a Consolidation Meeting for Agricultural Development in the Papua Region 2026, which was attended by governors, regents, heads of agricultural services, extension workers, and farmers from across the Papua region at the Ministry of Agriculture in Jakarta on Thursday (11/6).
