Immigration and Correctional Affairs Minister Agus Andrianto conducted a working visit to the Class IIB Ciangir Open Prison in Legok, Tangerang, Banten. He urged the prison, through the Directorate General of Corrections under the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs, to maximise the use of land at the facility as a means of fostering food security programmes for inmates.

During the visit on Tuesday (24/2/2026), Minister Agus inspected a laying hen farm currently being developed by the prison. Accompanied by Director General of Corrections Mashudi, the minister surveyed vacant land earmarked for the expansion of the poultry operation.

The terrain observed was uneven in elevation. On the lower-lying areas, prison staff had planted rice paddies.

Prison officials explained that the rice crops had previously been submerged by flooding, caused by extreme weather and the facility’s proximity to a river.

“How high did the floodwaters reach?” Minister Agus asked prison staff.

“When it floods, the roads are completely submerged, Sir,” they replied.

Minister Agus directed prison authorities to construct laying hen enclosures on higher ground. He expressed confidence that floodwaters would not reach the elevated sections of land.

“So the flooding doesn’t reach one metre, does it? The higher ground should be suitable for the hen enclosures,” the minister said.

The Ciangir Class IIB Open Prison spans 27 hectares. Open prisons are designated units tasked with carrying out assimilation programmes for inmates.

The existence of open prisons aims to support the reintegration of inmates with surrounding communities. Currently, 19 inmates are participating in the assimilation programme at the facility.
