Minister Agus Inaugurates House Renovation Programme Using Inmate Labour and Materials
The Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, inaugurated a house renovation programme for residents living near the Class IIA Warungkiara Prison, Sukabumi Regency, on Wednesday (10/06/2026). The programme utilises materials and labour derived from the rehabilitation programmes of inmates.
The event was attended by the Director General of Correctional Services, the Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Correctional Services, and heads of Correctional Technical Implementation Units (UPT) from across West Java, including the Head of the Class IIA Cibinong Prison.
The renovated house was constructed using materials produced by inmates from Tangerang Prison. The construction process also involved inmates from Warungkiara Prison who have participated in vocational skills training programmes.
Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Agus Andrianto, stated that the programme demonstrates how inmate rehabilitation can provide tangible benefits to the community.
“This house renovation programme is a manifestation of the Correctional Services’ presence within society. Through the works and skills of inmates, we want to show that the rehabilitation process can produce benefits that are directly felt by the public,” said Agus on Wednesday.
According to him, the correctional system should not only focus on rehabilitating inmates within the prison but also needs to provide social contributions that impact the surrounding environment.
The house renovation programme serves as a way to utilise the skills inmates acquire during their rehabilitation. In addition to supporting the enhancement of employability, the results of these programmes are directed towards providing social benefits to those in need.
The Head of the Class IIA Cibinong Prison also attended the event to show support for the empowerment and rehabilitation programmes developed by the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services.
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services believes that involving inmates in productive and social activities can serve as a learning tool while increasing their readiness to reintegrate into society after completing their sentences.
