Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto has inaugurated a house renovation programme for residents living around the Class IIA Warungkiara Prison in Sukabumi Regency on Wednesday (10/6/2026). The programme utilised materials and labour resulting from inmate rehabilitation programmes. The event was attended by the Director General of Corrections, the Head of the West Java Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, and heads of Technical Implementation Units across West Java, including the Head of Class IIA Cibinong Prison. The house that was inaugurated was built using materials produced by inmates of Tangerang Prison. The construction process also involved prisoners from Warungkiara Prison who had participated in vocational skills training programmes. Minister Agus Andrianto stated that the programme demonstrated that the results of inmate rehabilitation can provide benefits to the community. “This house renovation programme is a form of the Corrections system’s presence in the community. Through the work and skills of inmates, we want to show that the rehabilitation process can produce benefits that are directly felt by the community,” Agus said. According to him, the corrections system does not only focus on rehabilitating inmates within prisons but also needs to make a social contribution that impacts the surrounding environment. The house renovation programme is one form of utilising the skills acquired by inmates during their rehabilitation period. In addition to supporting the improvement of their work capabilities, the results of the rehabilitation are also directed towards providing social benefits for the community in need. The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections considers the involvement of inmates in productive and social activities to be a learning tool while increasing their readiness to return to society after completing their sentences.
