Minister: 8 Percent Commission Cut for Online Motorcycle Taxis Now in Effect
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Manpower Minister Yassierli said the policy cutting the commission taken from app-based ride-hailing (ojol) drivers to eight per cent has been in effect since 1 July 2026, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to improve the welfare of driver partners.
Yassierli said the implementation of the 8 per cent commission split for app operators and 92 per cent for driver partners is already running, as announced at a joint press conference with the leadership of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on 23 July 2026.
“As stated by the DPR leadership at that time, the 8 per cent and 92 per cent split has actually been running since 1 July (2026), in line with what the President conveyed,” the Manpower Minister said after opening a Job Fair titled “AI Career Boost Day 2026” in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, the government is focusing discussions on aligning the technical aspects of implementation so that the policy can be carried out effectively, consistently, and with certainty for all relevant stakeholders.
He explained that at a coordination meeting held by the government on Thursday (23 July 2026), understanding of the policy’s implementation was harmonised so that its execution on the ground runs in accordance with the provisions and objectives jointly agreed.
Yassierli added that cross-ministerial coordination remains necessary, given that the policy’s technical arrangements involve various agencies, to ensure all implementation mechanisms run in harmony without causing obstacles.
“It’s the details that require cross-ministerial coordination,” he said briefly.
Previously, the DPR and the government finalised a presidential regulation (perpres) concerning app-based ride-hailing, targeted for completion next week.
The DPR held a coordination meeting with government representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (23 July 2026).
The meeting also invited the National Ojol Coalition.
“Today we held another coordination meeting to refine the presidential regulation on ojol, which, thank God, is nearly final. Earlier we agreed that the teams will meet once more for finalisation,” said Deputy Speaker of the DPR Sufmi Dasco Ahmad after the meeting.
Dasco, who chaired the meeting, explained that besides discussions with ministries and agencies, the DPR also received input from ojol driver representatives regarding the application of the 8 per cent commission tariff after the rule was announced several months ago.
Previously, Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the majority of ride-hailing app companies had expressed readiness to implement the policy cutting online motorcycle taxi commissions to a maximum of eight per cent, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s policy.
Dudy said major companies such as Grab, GoTo, and Maxim are in principle ready to implement the new provision, although they still require a number of internal operational adjustments.
“For companies like Grab, GoTo, and Maxim, it seems they are ready, of course with new adjustments made internally by each operator,” the Transport Minister said.
