A large heavy-duty truck broke down on a road in Cilincing, North Jakarta. Traffic was briefly congested and police have now implemented a traffic diversion.

The mining haul truck broke down in the early hours of the morning at around 01.30 WIB on Jalan Kalibaru Barat I, RT 08 RW 08, Kalibaru Urban Village, Cilincing District, North Jakarta. The truck is suspected to have broken down due to a short circuit in its electrical system.

“The suspected cause of the Caterpillar HD truck breaking down was a short circuit, which produced sparks and leaked oil, causing the engine section and the front (driver’s area) to catch fire,” said Cilincing Police Chief AKP Bobi Subasri on Monday (24/8/2026).

The truck that broke down and caught fire was extinguished using a light fire extinguisher (APAR). The Caterpillar 773E heavy-duty truck that broke down has dimensions of approximately 9 metres in length, around 4 metres in height, and about 5 metres in width.

The mining truck broke down right at a bend on Jalan Kalibaru Barat I. The situation caused the road to narrow.

The truck will be evacuated to a depot for repairs to the damaged engine. The evacuation process is awaiting the arrival of heavy equipment.

“The management has arrived, but the heavy equipment for evacuation has not yet arrived. Thank God the traffic is no longer congested because the route has been diverted,” he said.

There were no fatalities or injuries as a result of this incident. In a video received by detikcom, the truck was seen emitting thick smoke when it first broke down.

“At present, the truck is in the process of being evacuated to the depot,” he said.
