Minimarket Change Donations Create Bridge for Sukabumi Residents
Small donations from shopping change, often valued at only tens or hundreds of rupiah, are capable of delivering significant benefits to society. Through the Alfamart Consumer Charity programme managed by the National Board of Zakat (Baznas) RI, donations from leftover change and voluntary contributions at Alfamart cashiers have successfully realised a permanent bridge to restore access for residents in Sukajadi Village, Cimanggu District, Sukabumi Regency.
The ‘Alfamart Consumer Charity Bridge’, valued at Rp300 million, was inaugurated by Baznas RI alongside Alfamart, Baznas Sukabumi Regency, and the Sehati Foundation on Wednesday (29/7/202<0xA0>26). The presence of this bridge reconnects Sukajadi Village and Karang Mekar Village, allowing more than 500 households to carry out their activities with greater safety, comfort, and ease.
The construction of this bridge serves as a tangible demonstration that donations from shopping change collected from Alfamart consumers are managed professionally by Baznas RI and transformed into infrastructure that provides long-term benefits to the community.
Fitriansyah Agus Setiawan, Director of Individual Collection at Baznas RI, stated that the bridge serves as proof that every donation, regardless of its value, has the potential to bring about significant change when managed with integrity and targeted correctly. “Many people might consider change to be of little value. However, when millions of consumers contribute through the Alfamarium Consumer Charity Programme, these donations transform into a bridge connecting the community to education, healthcare services, economic activities, and a better social life. This is the power of mutual cooperation through charity,” he said.
Separately, Rizaludin Kurniawan, Head of Mobilisation and Collection at Baznas RI, noted that the programme shows that public donations truly return to the community in the form of real benefits. “We thank all Alfamart consumers for trusting their donations to Baznas. The trust given, even from small amounts, is managed professionally, transparently, and accountably so that it can bring great benefits like this bridge construction,” he said.
During the event, the Regent of Sukabumi, Asep Japar, expressed his appreciation to Baznas RI, Alfamart, and the Sehati Gerak Bersama Foundation for their contribution to supporting infrastructure development. “Let us utilise and maintain this together so that it can be used for the long term,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alfamart’s Regional Manager of Corporate Communication, Firly Firlandi, stated that the bridge construction is one of many benefits realised from consumer donations. “This bridge is the result of the care shown by consumers who set aside their change for charity. We hope the community can see that every donation, no matter how small, can bring about great change when done together,” he said.
