Mineral and Commodities Exchange to Launch 1 January 2027, Named Icomex?

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has revealed that the strategic mineral and commodities exchange will officially commence operations on 1 January 2027. The exchange will be named Indonesia Commodity Exchange (Icomex).

“Everything is being prepared,” he said when met at Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta, on Monday (17/8/2026).

Prasetyo Hadi emphasised that the commodities involved are certainly Indonesia’s primary natural resources, including CPO, nickel, and coal.

“Not yet, it has not been decided. What is certain is that these are our most important production commodities, for example CPO, nickel, coal,” he said.

“More or less, Indonesia Commodity Exchange or Icomex,” he stated.

The government has not ruled out the possibility of merging ICDX into the state-owned commodity exchange, Icomex. However, Prasetyo Hadi declined to explain the mechanism that will be used in the exchange.

“We will see later, it could possibly merge, or it could stand alone,” he said.

The Strategic Mineral and Commodities Exchange is mandated by Law Number 4 of 2026 concerning Amendments to Law Number 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector (P2SK).

The exchange will be managed under the supervision of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and is targeted to begin operations on 1 January 2027. This policy is a continuation of the establishment of PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (DSI) as well as the implementation of the single-window export policy previously announced by the government.

As is known, President Prabowo Subianto wants to establish an Indonesia Reference Price so that reference prices for Indonesian export commodities are formed domestically, rather than referring to foreign exchanges.

President Prabowo believes that for decades Indonesia has been a major producer of various world commodities but has not had influence over price formation. According to him, this condition means that the added value of trade has not been fully enjoyed by Indonesia.
