Jakarta (ANTARA) – Achmad Ardianto, MIND ID’s Director of Downstream Strategy and Operations, said technology development and strategic partnerships were vital foundations for strengthening the mineral downstreaming ecosystem. The aim is to increase the added value of natural resources, strengthen national industrial capabilities and ensure products are developed in line with domestic and global market needs.

Ardianto said downstreaming projects must take future market demand into account. Industrial strategy should therefore be based not only on natural resource potential and processing capacity, but also on the outlook for product demand.

“What matters is that the strategic standards we set are future-oriented. That means aligning them with the needs of markets and society in the years ahead, both globally and nationally,” Achmad said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

In line with this approach, MIND ID is strengthening the foundations of downstreaming through four areas: the resilience of reserves and resources; the development of value-added downstream industries; the establishment of centres of excellence for projects and operations; and the adoption of adaptable, innovative technologies.

These four areas form part of efforts to build sustainable industrial capabilities that are ready to meet future needs.

Capabilities are also being strengthened through strategic partnerships with global companies, providing access to technology, knowledge exchange and workforce development to enable employees to operate the technologies.

This approach is reflected in technology development partnerships between ANTAM and INALUM and Chalieco, as well as the Indonesia Growth Project (IGP), developed by PT Vale Indonesia with strategic partners in the nickel-processing ecosystem.

Alongside strengthening technological capabilities, MIND ID is exploring investments and strategic partnerships in various countries, including in Africa, the Middle East and South America, to broaden access to new mineral resources.

“This is part of our efforts to secure mineral supplies to support the needs of future industries,” he said.

By strengthening technology, strategic partnerships and access to mineral resources, MIND ID is promoting downstreaming that not only increases processing capacity but also creates added value and enhances the competitiveness of national industry.

An approach oriented towards market needs is an important part of building a sustainable Indonesian minerals ecosystem capable of playing a role in global industrial supply chains.

Meanwhile, Danantara Indonesia Chief Technology Officer and DTIIF 2026 chairman Sigit Puji Santosa stressed that technology cooperation must produce innovations that can be applied directly in industry.

He said collaboration must not end with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU), but should lead to concrete projects that deliver an impact for industry.

“At Danantara, we are building cooperation to drive innovation that can be implemented directly in industry. In this way, we will not merely adopt what others have done, but also become pioneers in innovation. We will not stop at MoUs; we will follow them up with concrete projects that can be carried out promptly and demonstrate a real impact,” Sigit said.
