MIND ID Group Strengthens Forest and Land Fire Impact Management for Sustainability
The Indonesian mining industry holding company, MIND ID, is taking swift and coordinated steps to respond to the risks of forest and land fires (karhutla) affecting several points across Indonesia. Recognising the impact of these fires on community quality of life and the stability of forest ecosystems, the MIND ID Group is demonstrating a spirit of mutual cooperation by consolidating 60 certified firefighters from various operational regions—spanning Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and Papua—to the affected areas in Mempawah, West Kalimantan.
MIND ID has also mobilised supporting equipment, including firefighting foam, personal protective equipment (PPE), turnout gear, and fire hoses, as well as medical and N95 masks for both personnel and communities affected by the haze. For MIND ID, the management of forest fires is aimed at ensuring that both people and the environment remain protected. The goal is to reduce potential health risks and socio-economic vulnerabilities, while ensuring that the flora and fauna in the affected areas can recover quickly.
The Emergency Response Group (ERG) from ANTAM and PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (PT BAI) has been active since the onset, conducting patrols, spraying, and controlling hotspots around Mempatus, West Kalimantan. These efforts are being carried out alongside the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), the police, the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), and local firefighting teams to ensure that field operations are precise and integrated.
The President Director of MIND ID, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, emphasised that this humanitarian initiative stems from a commitment to stand with the community during times of crisis. MIND ID ensures that the assistance programme operates holistically, extending beyond the disaster mitigation phase to include the long-term recovery process.
“This step is a form of our care for the environment and the community. The presence of MIND ID Group volunteers is part of a collective effort to accelerate the control of hotspots while helping to reduce health risks and disruptions to community activities,” said Maroef in an official statement, quoted on Saturday (5/9/2026).
The Division Head of Institutional Relations at MIND ID, Selly Adriatika, stated that the solidarity of volunteers arriving from Sumatra to Papua reflects the spirit of ‘gotong royong’ (mutual cooperation) and the empathy of the MIND ID Group family in supporting communities in need.
“What we are doing is not just for today or for temporary handling, but also to ensure that the burden felt by the community is lightened, and that eventually, the forest can recover and sustain life once again,” she said.
These efforts reflect MIND ID’s tangible contribution to supporting environmental and social resilience, ensuring that Indonesia can emerge stronger in building and preserving its natural environment.
