MIND ID Consistently Implements Sustainability Principles
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Indonesia’s Mining Industry Holding MIND ID is consistently implementing sustainability principles in every operational area. This commitment is not merely to meet regulatory requirements, but as a way for the company to optimise natural resources responsibly while ensuring continuity, environmental balance, and social welfare around operational areas.
Director of Mineral Downstreaming Strategy and Ecosystem at MIND ID, Tedy Badrujaman, stated that good mining practices form the primary foundation for maintaining environmental and social performance across all MIND ID Group operations. According to him, sustainability must be present from the planning stage, operations, to rehabilitation.
“If we operate, we must consider the surrounding natural conditions. This is a commitment in line with existing regulations, and we even try to exceed the regulations. Everything we run is for the environment where we live,” said Tedy, quoted on Wednesday (22/4/2026).
Tedy explained that MIND ID Group members not only implement programmes to comply with regulations but also strive to maintain and improve the environmental quality around mining and processing areas. These efforts are carried out through innovations involving the community with measurable and verifiable impacts.
One innovation is implemented by PT Timah (Persero) Tbk (TIMAH) at the Muntok Processing and Refining facility, through the application of the Menjaga Nusantara: Muntok Berjaya dan Bahagia Melalui Inklusifitas Berkelanjutan dan Sejahtera programme. This programme utilises former illegal mining land to become a community business incubation site that supports regional food security.
TIMAH also runs a Waste Bank programme along with business mentoring for utilising shrimp shell waste into symbiotic products. To strengthen its economic aspect, the Menjaga Nusantara programme is also integrated with empowerment of the Batik Ciprat Business Group, Batik Ecoprint and UMKM snacks, as well as hydroponic vegetable cultivation, and mentoring for shrimp pempek business groups whose members come from former illegal miners.
On the other hand, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) has a social innovation programme in Kuta Tanjung Village. This programme uses a holistic approach that integrates economic, social, and environmental strengthening through the utilisation of local potential and empowerment of vulnerable communities, including the poor, women’s groups, people with disabilities, and youth.
The impact of this integrated programme enables INALUM to support increased community income, the creation of local jobs, sustainable management of dozens of tonnes of waste, and real contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
INALUM’s programme has generated economic income of Rp2.9 billion, managing 28,625.8 kilograms of waste through the waste bank system. Furthermore, the contribution to reducing Global Warming Potential (GWP) reaches 11,494 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.
Both social innovation programmes from TIMAH and INALUM received the PROPER Emas 2025 appreciation from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
Tedy added that mining activities inherently change the landscape. However, the impacts can be controlled and restored if the company implements comprehensive and integrated sustainability programmes.
“We strive to ensure that mining activities are followed by various control and rehabilitation efforts in accordance with standards, and even further to preserve nature with appropriate social innovations,” he explained.
