MIND ID CEO Proposes National Mineral Stockpile
MIND ID CEO Maroef Sjamsoeddin has spoken openly about the abundance of mineral wealth in Indonesia, particularly gold.
He noted that gold can be found in nearly all parts of Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua. Given this, he stressed the importance of safeguarding and managing mineral resources, one of which is through the establishment of a national mineral stockpile.
With such a stockpile, he continued, Indonesia could control its mineral resources and utilise them for the benefit of society in the future.
“Earlier I spoke with the Deputy Minister, Mr Elen and Mr Tri. How do we realise a mineral stockpile so that we can regulate commodities, when to release them and when to hold them,” he explained during MINDialogue with the theme ‘Commodities for the Nation: Strategy for Strengthening Mineral Reserves for Indonesia’s Economic Stability and Sovereignty’ on Wednesday (12/8/2026).
Moreover, he added, gold has high economic value and is considered one of the international reserve assets of central banks. Therefore, he said, gold has the potential to become a strategic asset that supports the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
He expressed hope that with a national mineral stockpile, Indonesia could become a strong country in the future by managing its mineral assets well, similar to Malaysia with its CPO.
“Like how Malaysia controls international CPO. This is our thinking to realise that,” he said.
