Minaret collapse in Jeneponto kills two

MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: Two people were killed and two others seriously injured in Bontang subdistrict, Jeneponto regency, on Sunday when a minaret collapsed and fell on them.

The four Bontang residents were painting the minaret when a sudden wind brought the newly built minaret crashing down on them, according to witness Gunawan.

The two people who were killed were identified as Mudeng, 35, and Mansyur, 20. The two people injured in the accident were identified as Alimudin and Suardi. They are being treated at the hospital in Jeneponto, some 90 kilometers south of Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province. -- JP
