Mimika Regent urges Paskibraka to make discipline a character trait

Timika (ANTARA) - Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob has asked 54 members of the Mimika Regency Heritage Flag Raising Squad (Paskibraka) in Central Papua to make discipline, responsibility, unity and nationalism character traits that they continue to apply after completing their duties for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

“Discipline must become a character, responsibility must become a habit, unity must become an attitude and nationalism must become a soul in life,” said Johannes during the Paskibraka inauguration at Graha Eme Neme Yauware, Timika, on Sunday.

According to Johannes, the inauguration and the duty of raising the Red and White Flag are not the end of the development process that the Paskibraka members have undergone. He expressed hope that the values gained during selection, education, development and training can be applied in daily life.

Johannes said the Paskibraka members are part of the next generation expected to have integrity, intelligence, courage, concern and the spirit to contribute to the region and the nation.

“You are the nation’s next generation. The future of Mimika and Indonesia is in the hands of young people who have integrity, intelligence, courage, concern and the spirit to give their best for the nation and the region,” he said.

According to him, the trust of becoming a Paskibraka member is not only a source of pride but also a responsibility and a mandate. Johannes reminded that the Red and White Flag to be raised by the Paskibraka members is a symbol of unity, struggle and the sacrifice of heroes.

“The Red and White Flag that you will raise is not just a piece of cloth. Red and White is a symbol of the nation’s honour, a symbol of unity, a symbol of struggle and a symbol of the sacrifice of heroes who gave their lives for Indonesia’s independence,” he said.

A total of 54 Mimika Regency Paskibraka members were inaugurated after undergoing a series of selection, development, training and discipline education processes. They will serve in the flag-raising and lowering ceremonies for the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence at the SP 3 Government Centre Field, Mimika Regency, on Monday (17/8).

The inauguration was also attended by Mimika Deputy Regent Emanuel Kemong, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), heads of regional apparatus organisations, and family members of the Paskibraka members.
