Timika — Mimika Regent Johannes Rettob has appealed to all parties currently in dispute in Kapiraya, West Central Mimika District, Central Papua, to respect the entire conflict resolution process being carried out by the government.

“I visited Kapiraya yesterday and met with the community there. I informed the people that throughout this resolution process, there should be no conflict between residents in that area,” he said in Timika on Saturday.

He stated that the Mimika District Government is committed to resolving the conflict in the region peacefully. The district government has established a Harmony Team for Customary Land Border Demarcation, which has deployed to the conflict location to meet and discuss with the Kapiraya community to accelerate conflict resolution in the area.

“I informed the community that our team has deployed to the location and is discussing and meeting with the people,” he said.

He also clarified that the closure of Kapiraya airfield was not carried out by the Mimika District Government but by the Ministry of Transportation.

“The closure of the airfield in Kapiraya was by the Ministry of Transportation and it has no connection with the Kapiraya conflict, but there is another issue that caused 11 pioneer airfields in the Papua region to be closed, including Kapiraya,” he said.
