The Mimika Regency Free Nutritious Meal Task Force (Satgas MBG) will invite the Central Papua National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to discuss the implementation of the MBG programme in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas in the region.

Task Force Chairman Emanuel Kemong stated in Timika on Monday that the programme has not yet been implemented in Mimika’s 3T areas because a thorough study is required to ensure optimal execution once it begins. “To date, the MBG programme has not been implemented in areas classified as 3T in Mimika. We will soon invite BGN to discuss this. For the 3T areas, we have not yet determined which specific regions to focus on; we must hold a meeting first to decide the locations before implementation,” he said.

He noted that while there have been some initiatives to build MBG kitchens in 3T areas, no surveys have been conducted yet. “BGN has a map of which areas in Mimika are classified as 3T, and we will assess whether these designated areas are accessible, what food supplies we can manage, and so on. This mapping must be done first. Without data, we cannot act, so we need supporting data to implement the MBG programme in 3T areas,” he added.

The MBG programme in Mimika has so far only been implemented in districts within the Timika urban area. A total of 18 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) have been built and are currently active in serving children in the city. “In the Timika urban area, all 18 kitchens are active, including those that were temporarily suspended; they are all operating as usual now,” he said.

The 18 SPPGs are spread across three districts within the Timika urban area: Mimika Baru, Kuala Kencana, and Wania. The MBG service in Mimika was launched in July 2025. Mimika Regency comprises 18 districts located in urban Timika, suburban areas, coastal regions, and the Mimika highlands. The highland districts are only accessible by air, while the coastal areas can be reached by sea and air.
