Mimika Crabs Increasingly Sought After, Exported 27 Times to Malaysia and Singapore Since Early 2026
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA - Exports of crab (karaka) commodity from Mimika Regency, Central Papua, to international markets have gained momentum throughout early 2026. There have been 27 export activities of crab with a total volume of 15,735 kilograms to various countries and foreign exchange value exceeding Rp 800 million.
The Head of the Timika Customs Office, Yudi Amirullah, explained that the destination countries for exports include Malaysia and Singapore. This indicates the high demand for crab commodity from Mimika in the global market.
“We consistently support these exports through assistance to business actors, to increase regional exports and contribute to national foreign exchange,” he said.
In detail, exports to Malaysia reached 9,192 kilograms with a foreign exchange value of RM 81,640 or Rp 350 million. Meanwhile, exports to Singapore were recorded at 6,543 kilograms with a foreign exchange value of SGD 35,955 or approximately Rp 850 million. This achievement reflects the competitiveness of the local commodity capable of penetrating international markets.
The success of these exports is inseparable from the role of the Timika Customs Office through the Customs Visit Customers (CVC) programme. In this activity, officers conduct direct visits to business actors, including PT Harapan Nurdiana Jaya and PT Hokky Laut Perkasa, to provide assistance regarding export procedures and help identify on-site obstacles.
“We continue to strive to provide assistance and ease for business actors so they can penetrate the global market. Exports not only increase national foreign exchange but also open economic opportunities for the community,” said Yudi.
In the future, the Timika Customs Office is committed to further strengthening synergies with various stakeholders. Ongoing assistance is expected to encourage more local Mimika commodities to compete in international markets and support regional economic growth.
