Millions of Train Tickets for Mudik 2026 Still Available, Only 49 Per Cent Sold
Millions of Mudik train tickets for 2026 remain available as of Friday, 6 March 2026. Currently, 2.2 million train tickets for Lebaran Mudik have already been sold. A further around 2.27 million tickets are still able to be booked for departures from 11 March to 1 April 2026. ‘KAI urges the public to plan their journeys carefully and take advantage of the ticket availability that remains substantial. In addition, the public can choose to Mudik earlier or use connection trains as an alternative to ensure a comfortable and smooth journey,’ said Anne Purba, Vice President Corporate Communications at KAI, in a statement on Friday, 6 March 2026. Meanwhile, KA Lokal has sold 58,449 tickets from a capacity of 926,936 seats, or 6.3 per cent. Occupancy of KA Lokal is projected to rise as departure dates approach, given that bookings for KA Lokal open from H-7 (seven days before departure). In the 3 per cent ticket discount programme, KAK provides 1.2 million seats, with realised sales of 685,395 tickets or 53.34 per cent. Thus around 599,661 discounted tickets remain available for the Lebaran 2026 travel period. ‘We commend the government’s policy providing a 30 per cent transport discount stimulus. This programme greatly helps the public plan their mudik journeys via a transport mode that is safe, comfortable, and timely,’ said Anne. According to provisional data, tickets for Economically People-Powered Train (KA Ekonomi Kerakyatan) reached 18,759 tickets from a capacity of 27,368 seats. ‘KAI remains committed to delivering reliable transport services to the public during the Lebaran peak period. We also urge customers to book tickets through official KAI channels so that mudik journeys can be planned more effectively,’ she concluded.
