Millennials and Gen Z to Dominate 2029 Electorate, PKB West Java Prepares Thousands of Young Cadres
The West Java Regional Board of the National Awakening Party (DPW PKB Jawa Barat) is taking strategic steps to prepare for the 2029 political contest. Utilising the momentum of the upcoming PKB Jabar Fest, scheduled for Sunday, 14 June 2026, at the Arcamanik Youth Centre in Bandung, PKB West Java is set to formalise thousands of young officials from across the region.
The Chairman of DPW PKB West Java, Syaiful Huda, revealed that for the 2029 political landscape, the voter constellation is projected to be dominated by the younger generation, specifically Millennials and Gen Z. He noted that interpreting and responding to the aspirations and interests of young voters can only be done accurately and effectively if it is directly architected by officials who also come from the youth demographic.
“Young people know best how to communicate with their peers. If the 2029 voters are mostly comprised of Gen Z and Millennials, there is no other way than to entrust the party’s machinery to the youth as well. We do not want to merely claim to be the home of the youth; we are handing them the keys to the kitchen directly,” Huda stated in a briefing on Friday, 12 June 2026.
This mass inauguration agenda will involve officials from the Sub-District Leadership Boards (DPAC), which command the party structure at the sub-district level. Currently, there are approximately 627 PKB DPAC units spread across West Java. Notably, the entire management tier is now composed of young individuals, following a bold policy by the West Java PKB Regional Board that limits the maximum age for DPAC officials to 35 years.
Huda admitted that implementing this age limit was not easy and initially triggered resistance from several senior activists within the party. However, through a persuasive approach, the policy was eventually accepted to ensure the continuity of party regeneration. He emphasised that the organisational structure must adapt to contemporary situations so that societal dynamics can be responded to swiftly by the progressive energy of the youth.
“Initially, many seniors were anxious and doubtful. That is natural. But I am convinced that politics today requires agility and speed of adaptation. These young people under the age of 35 possess that energy. They are not displacing the seniors, but rather continuing the relay baton of struggle using new methods that are more relevant to modern challenges,” Huda added.
The formation of this new management group across 627 sub-districts did not happen instantly, but through a very rigorous recruitment process. PKB West Java implemented a fit and proper test to ensure that every young person possesses full awareness of their political choices.
The results of these tests revealed an interesting fact: the majority of these young individuals chose to join the party not merely to pursue power through the election, but because they recognise that political parties are strategic spaces with a large reach to serve the broader public interest.
“Many assume that today’s youth are apathetic towards politics. Through the recent fit and proper tests, we found the exact opposite. They long to be involved in public change. They realise that merely criticizing from the outside is not enough; they want to enter the system to bring real benefits to the masses,” Huda asserted.
Through the PKB Jabar Fest, which will also be attended by the General Chairman of the PKB Central Board, Gus Muhaimin Iskandar, PKB West Java aims to send a strong message to the public. This DPAC inauguration is positioned as a milestone of readiness and the primary driving engine for thousands of young grassroots officials to consolidate their strength and win for PKB in the upcoming 2029 Election.
