Militia attack E. Timor village
DILI, East Timor (AFP): Armed militia attacked an East Timorese village near the border with East Nusa Tenggara killing one civilian and wounding another, an official source with the UN Transitional Authority in East Timor (UNTAET) said on Monday.
The source, citing a villager who was kidnapped in the attack on Sunday and later released, said the attack was carried out by five militia on the village of Azufuru, some five kilometers east of Maliana.
"They had rifles and grenades," the source said, adding one villager was killed and another wounded. "The only thing we know so far is that they arrived and attacked the village," the source said, when asked how the victims were killed.
The resident who was abducted and released provided the information on the attack to UN civilian police, the source added.
