Military Prosecutor Speaks Out on Proposal for Ad Hoc Judges in Andrie Yunus Case
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Head of the Military Prosecutor’s Office II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Andri Wijaya, assesses that the handling of the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus remains within the realm of the military judiciary.
This is in response to the proposal by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who urged the involvement of ad hoc judges from professional circles in the trial of the case.
“Based on our assessment during the handling of this case, we believe that the resolution of this case still falls within the corridor of resolution in the military judiciary environment,” said Andri, when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday (12/4/2026).
Andri explained that Law No. 31 of 1997 on the Military Judiciary regulates the jurisdiction of the court based on the legal subject, namely active TNI soldiers at the time the criminal offence occurred or other parties equated with the military by law.
He added that the Jakarta Military Prosecutor’s Office will carry out the prosecution process transparently while still paying attention to legal certainty, justice, and accountability.
“By always being open to developments in information and input from the public as long as it does not contradict the mechanisms of the Military Judiciary Law or other legal provisions,” he stressed.
Previously reported, Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming proposed the involvement of ad hoc judges from professional circles in the trial of the acid attack case against Kontras Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus.
Gibran emphasised that the government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto is committed to supporting the strengthening of the judicial system to make it increasingly fair and trusted.
“Therefore, the direct involvement of professionals with strong track records and integrity as ad hoc judges in the acid attack court against brother Andrie Yunus is very important to maintain public trust and the honour of the law,” Gibran wrote in his statement on Thursday (9/4/2026).
Gibran also wants justice not only to be upheld but also to be believed by society.
“Justice must be present in a real way in the midst of society and the legal process must run honestly, openly, and accountably,” he added.
The four suspects are personnel from the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency, namely Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
The suspects are charged under Article 467 of the Criminal Code regarding planned assault, with a minimum prison sentence of four years and a maximum of seven years.
